چکیده

This article proposes a new method to increase a power system's security margin and/or support its low voltage buses by re-dispatching generator outputs, using a normal vector found at a voltage collapse boundary or a low voltage boundary (LVB). This method uses the normal vector as an indicator to change the generation direction so that more power can be transferred before reaching a boundary of a critical limit such as the voltage collapse boundary or the LVB, etc. The method has been tested in simulation on several systems and shown predicted results. It can be applied to many practical power systems to enhance the system's security and reliability, so as to increase the system's transfer capability. It also provides technical guidance for open access transmission in a deregulated environment, when bidding results are shown as generation directions (patterns).

A Novel Index for Online Voltage Stability Assessment Based on Correlation Characteristic of Voltage Profiles

Abstract: Voltage instability is a major threat for security of power systems. Preserving voltage security margin at a certain limit is a vital requirement for today’s power systems. Assessment of voltage security margin is a challenging task demanding sophisticated indices. In this paper, for the purpose of on line voltage security assessment a new index based on the correlation characteristic...

Distributed Generation Effects on Unbalanced Distribution Network Losses Considering Cost and Security Indices

Due to the increasing interest on renewable sources in recent years, the studies on integration of distributed generation to the power grid have rapidly increased. In order to minimize line losses of power systems, it is crucially important to define the size and location of local generation to be placed. Minimizing the losses in the system would bring two types of saving, in real life, one is ...

A New Framework for Congestion Management with Exact Modeling of Impacting Factors

Congestion in the transmission lines is one of the technical problems that appear particularly in the deregulated environment. The voltage stability issue gets more important because of heavy loading in this environment. The main factor causing instability is the inability of the power system to meet the demand for reactive power. This paper presents a new approach for alleviation congestion re...
